Changing the Game
VRiMS specialises in creating extended reality resources through virtual reality, augmented reality, and the metaverse. Our primary focus is on medical and surgical education and global health.
Our mission is to develop training resources for low to middle-income countries utilising extended reality technologies.
In addition to being a resource creation entity, VRiMS is also a research group. We deploy scientific methodologies to assess the benefits of using extended reality in medical and surgical education.
In partnership with the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, and supported by funding from Health Education England, VRiMS has successfully delivered seven one-week courses. These courses have offered cadaveric hands-on surgical procedures and engaged over 6000 participants from 101 countries.
Our innovative approach involves live streaming of 360-degree videos in a virtual studio setup, making use of the entire 360 space with several camera overlays.
Our content spans all surgical specialities.
Currently, the VRiMS team travels extensively, hosting live streaming events globally to produce additional resources for low to middle-income countries.

Jonathan is a Medical Education Fellow with a special interest in XR technologies in medical education. Working on projects including virtual meeting spaces into the metaverse and XR approaches to mandatory NHS training.

Karamveer is an ENT surgical trainee currently based in the West Midlands. He has a special interest in how XR can be used in medical education and especially in postgraduate surgical training.

Aimee is a oral and maxillofacial surgery higher surgical trainee and has been working with VRiMS as a Metaverse Fellow supporting the development of projects including a BLS training app.

Soham is an academic doctor, with interests in neurosurgery, global health, and medical education. For our organisation, he is primarily responsible for coordinating the activities between GASOC and VRiMS, and helping supporting logistical efforts.

Michael Samy is a senior software engineer and qualified doctor. He has worked on web and software applications for a range of industries and applications, from GP surgery and telehealth to property finance, stock exchange and energy trading.

Ananth is an ophthalmology research fellow with a special interest in medical education. He has been working with VRiMS to evaluate the use of virtual reality and 360 videos for delivering mandatory training within the NHS.
